Ethiopian-American singer Wayna arrested at Houston airport
On stage, a collapsible police baton is a distinct prop for  R&B singer Wayna when she sings about police brutality in Billieclub. But on the grounds of a Houston airport, the Grammy-nominated artist  learned Wednesday, the instrument is a definite no-no.

When the DC-area performer tried to board a plane in Houston with the baton, she  was arrested and charged with carrying a weapon, a club, in an airport. Harris County District Attorney spokeswoman Donna Hawkins said Wayna Wondwossen was charged with the third-degree felony and given a $5,000 bond. Further details, including which airport the singer was at and whether she had made bail were not available late Wednesday.

    Gospel singer creating waves

Zerfe Kebede is creating waves in Ethiopia with her new gospel songs. The 25-year-old Orthodox Church singer has enjoyed unprecedented success, breaking through to mainstream audiences. Her debut album, “Ruhama,” is a massive hit in Addis and other major towns. It was reported that 5,000 original CDs and 30,000 cassettes were sold in less than three weeks. The album is literally heard everywhere, in taxis, cafés, and restaurants. Her smooth, warm, expressive voice seems to strike the right chords as praise keeps on coming from the media. Unusual for a church singer, she has become a cover girl in many secular magazines.
